Do I need to create an account?

No. The plugin runs entirely on your Mac. You bring an API key from Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google, and it sits in the macOS Keychain alongside your other credentials. If you run a local model through Ollama or LM Studio, you don't even need that.

Does my email get sent to some server?

Only to the AI provider you chose, using your key — the plugin calls the provider's API directly, with no middleman server. With a local model, your email never leaves the Mac at all.

Does it work outside Apple Mail, in Discord or WhatsApp?

Yes. Switch on Discord, WhatsApp, or any app you pick under Settings → General → Compose from a Screenshot. In those apps the plugin screenshots the chat window, sends it to your model as the context, and puts the finished message into the chat box. It never sends the message. You read it and press Enter.

What does it need to work in Discord or WhatsApp?

Two macOS permissions and a model that can read images. Screen Recording lets the plugin screenshot the window, Accessibility lets it type into the chat box, and current Claude, GPT, and Gemini models all read screenshots. Without Screen Recording it writes from your notes alone. Without Accessibility it copies the message to your clipboard. Both stay off until you switch on your first app.

Where does the screenshot go?

To the AI provider you chose, attached to that one request, and nowhere else. The composer shows you the exact thumbnail before you generate, with a Retake button. The plugin keeps the image in memory for the request and never writes it to disk.

Which macOS versions are supported?

macOS Sonoma (14) and newer, on Intel and Apple Silicon.

How much does it cost?

The plugin is free and open source. You pay your AI provider directly for usage — typically fractions of a cent per reply — or nothing at all with a local model.

Is it affiliated with Apple?

No. This is an independent open-source project. "Apple Mail" is used descriptively to identify the mail app it extends.

Example thread and chats, so you can see the mechanism. The panel matches v0.12.

Switch on the chat apps. Mail needs no setup. For the rest: Settings → General → Compose from a Screenshot. Discord and WhatsApp are one toggle each. Add App… picks anything else.
Press ⌥H in the chat. The plugin screenshots the front window, shows you the thumbnail it will send, and you type what you want to say.
Read it, then send it yourself. Insert puts the message into the chat box, unsent. Press Enter when it says what you mean.

Needs a model that can read images (current Claude, GPT, and Gemini models all do), plus two macOS permissions: Screen Recording to take the screenshot and Accessibility to type into the chat box. Without Screen Recording it writes from your notes alone. Without Accessibility it copies the message to your clipboard.
